All of life’s unhappiness can be found in the gap between who we think we should be and who we actually are. Perfectionism creates the gap. Guilt widens it.
Linda Gray – The Road to Happiness
The path to a happier life is often one with twists and turns on a gravely road with pot holes and speed bumps. But every once in a while you may be lucky enough to find a patch of road freshly paved and smooth as silk.
That freshly paved route was experienced by all of us who had the privilege of meeting Linda Gray recently on the set of our show and this week you too will enjoy the ride.
Linda is known world-wide as Sue Ellen, the wife of J.R. Ewing, on one of the most watched shows in history, Dallas. However, as we all soon learned, this most elegant and charming woman is filled with grace, gratitude and love and her aura’s warmth permeated the studio.
On the road to happiness, authenticity is the only measure of success.
My conversation with Linda, that airs on most of our PBS stations this week, is about her book The Road to Happiness. Now, one may automatically think; “Sure it’s easy being happy if you’re the beautiful and successful Linda Gray,” but that has nothing to do with true happiness and Linda knows it from the inside out.
It’s taken me decades to appreciate sorrow, annoyance, and disappointment as life affirming.
No doubt we will continue to experience that gravely pot hole filled road on the journey of life but as Linda reminds us:
There is always a lesson, if you have the patience and will to figure it out.
Hope your New Year is starting off right and may it be filled with patience,
