There are the special few who can express themselves in ways that touch the heart, soul and every chakra and cell of our inner-self. One such man who I often site on my show and in my blog is John O’Donohue.
Many long time viewers and readers are already familiar with this deep and soulful man but with so many new readers and viewers each week I want to share a bit about him as we end the year and begin a new one.
John is a theologian, philosopher and poet. He passed on to a new plane of existence over five years ago but I speak of him in the present tense because I still feel his presence. I met John when he was on the program with his book Beauty. When his book To Bless the Space Between Us came out I contacted his staff immediately to ask him back on the show. To my shock, John left this stage just a few days earlier. I was most fortunate to meet a dear friend of John’s who now I too consider a dear friend. He is Mike Farrell, one of the most kind and gentle men on the planet, and known to many as B.J. Hunnicutt on the classic television series M*A*S*H.
Mike graciously accepted my invitation to discuss John’s book To Bless the Space Between Usand shortly I will be posting both my conversation with John, and with Mike, online for all to enjoy. I also had Mike back on my show with his moving memoir Just Call Me Mike.
I believe that every home should be filled with wonderful books, but John’s, To Bless the Space Between Us, is an absolute must. I hope someday they convert the book into a pocket sized edition so I can carry it with me at all times.

So, to end this year and begin the next, I can do no better than allow John’s own words, from To Bless the Space Between Us, to fill you with beauty and grace.
The beauty of nature insist on taking its time. Everything is prepared. Nothing is rushed. The rhythm of emergence is a gradual slow beat always inching its way forward; change remains faithful to itself until the new unfolds in the full confidence of true arrival…
Change arrives in nature when time has ripened. There are no jagged transitions or crude discontinuities. This accounts for the sureness with which one season succeeds another…
At the End of the Year
As this year draws to its end.
We give thanks for the gifts it brought
And how they became inlaid within
Where neither time nor tide can touch them.
The days when the veil lifted
And the soul could see delight
When a quiver caressed the heart
In the sheer exuberance of being here.
Surprises that came awake
In forgotten corners of old fields
Where expectation seemed to have quenched.
The slow, brooding times
When all was awkward
And the wave in the mind
Pierced every sore with salt.
The darkened days that stopped
The confidence of the dawn
Days when beloved faces shone brighter
With light from beyond themselves,
And from the granite of some secret sorrow
A stream of buried tears loosened.
We bless this year for all we learned,
For all we loved and lost
And for the quiet way it brought us
Nearer to our invisible destination.
Thank you dear readers and viewers, for my family and I are blessed that you are in our lives.
