To all my viewers and readers celebrating the Christmas Holiday I wish you all a very merry and joy filled Christmas.
When I lost my first two top baby teeth I remember my dad teasingly singing: All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.
That song popped in my head the other day after a taping of my show. The reason was due to two very special books I was discussing with three very special guests and after having the privilege of seeing these books I knew they would make exceptional gifts that I would personally love to receive for the holiday.
Realizing that the episodes won’t air until after the New Year I want to tell you about them because if you haven’t completed your Christmas shopping you will truly enjoy these not only to give to others but as a real treat for yourself.
My first guest that day was Jerry Bruckheimer, the most successful and prolific film and television producer of our time. Besides being a true delight to meet and talk with, Jerry’s films and television series are a major part of our popular culture. From Top Gun, and Flashdance to The Pirates of the Caribbean and his hit TV shows CSI (and its offshoots) to The Amazing Race, Jerry’s productions are estimated to be seen by nearly 250 million people each week.
Our conversation delved deep into the man himself and his work, and was based around a gorgeous large format picture book written about him by Michael Singer and features many of the iconic images of his films and TV shows. The book is titled: When Lightning Strikesand it explores the four decades of his remarkable career.
My next two guests that day are not household names like Jerry Bruckheimer but many of the images they created and those featured in the book we discussed certainly are. My guests were two major National Geographic photographers Frans Lanting and Jodi Cobb and the book set we were discussing is so gorgeous and important that only the pictures inside them could truly express its beauty.
Titled, National Geographic: Around the World in 125 Years, the book is a limited edition of only 125,000 copies worldwide and published by TASCHEN, known as the greatest publisher of art, design and photography books. This three-series set is produced by Benedikt Tashcenhimself and he and his staff were given complete access to the National Geographic archives. This set is a true sight to behold and it features photographs—many unpublished— as rich, deep, and colorful as the world itself. This world class set is a cultural investment to be cherished, shared, and passed down to future generations.
When the episodes air I will write more about these books and my guests but did not want my cherished viewers and readers to miss this opportunity for the holiday.
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy Holiday to all.
